What is Supportive Oligonucleotide Technique aka SOT Therapy?

Supportive Oligonucleotide Technique is a therapy used in treatment for Lyme disease and cancer. It targets specific gene expression to induce cell death. SOT is based on a technique called antisense therapy, which works to prevent the synthesis of specific unwanted proteins.(1)

SOT is used in a variety of illnesses, including cancer treatment, Lyme disease, Epstein-Barr, cytomegalovirus and Hepatitis C.(2)

What are oligonucleotides?

Before we dive into how SOT works, let’s understand what an oligonucleotide is. Simply put, oligonucleotides are short segments of single or double-stranded DNA or RNA. The SOT molecule is a mirror image to certain gene sequences and works to block the overall function. This impacts protein synthesis and replication.

How does SOT work?

Supportive Oligonucleotide Technique works with your immune response, causing it to target and kill pathogens or cancer cells. It also possesses the ability to cross cell membranes, enabling it to access infected cells and cancer tissue. Its small size lets it pass the blood-brain barrier. This allows SOT to address some of the neurological side effects of Lyme or reach tissues areas in the brain.

Because SOT uses mRNA to identify targets in a cell, it can seek out and decrease cell and pathogen replication, and induce cell death in these affected cells, but does not harm healthy cells.

What is the process for SOT?

The first step in treatment is having done the right tests. Once this has been completed, patients will have blood collected. The collected cells undergo analysis to identify the most active targets that facilitate replication in the disease.
